I finally gave in to the whole mommy blogging thing. I was really against them because I thought, one, people have babies and kids every hour of every day (unless you live in P.D. James' world in Children of Men where everyone becomes infertile and the world is doomed to live with old people...oh wait, where am I?) So, in the grand scheme of things, who really cares about my kid and when she has her first steps, or how cute I think she is? Two, there are so many PRE-VERTS out there who get off on looking at junior's birthday party pictures. So, for protection of my pickle, I won't put her name out here. On the other hand, I have been CONSTANTLY catching up with so many peeps, I decided, I could at least give people the scoop and if they aren't interested, they don't have to read. She is freaking much cuter than we anticipated, and Mini-Peaves' public awaits.
I thought I would catch up on the day of her birth and give you the nasty on what happened. It wasn't that bad, because I was STONED the entire time on the epidural. Mini Peaves was due about a week earlier and my doc wanted to induce labor by Saturday. He was concerned with my small stature and and the size of the child. We had spoken of a C-Section earlier in my pregnancy, but he still wanted to try to go through natural labor. We checked in on, yup. Friday the 13th. They gave me something to soften my cervix, and it hurt. I didn't get a good night's sleep, because it was this uncomfortable and painful sensation. I was given Pitocen around 7:30 AM on Saturday...the contractions started to come.
Look how huge I was! Anyway, I was 2 centimeters dialated going in the night before.
We waited.
This is why I love my doctor.
Dr D: How you feelin' kid?
Me: fine... i guess...
Dr D: Pain level?
Me: ummmm 7?
Dr D: You want the pain stuff? Dont be a hero... get the stuff!
With little to no arm twisting, one of the handsomest men I have ever laid eyes on was there... the anesthesiologist. I don't remember what he looked like, I just remember... not feeling anything.
And by 430 pm I was still 2 cm! I was having contractions one on top of another, and Doc D had broken my water around 2pm. Mini Peaves couldn't get through my pelvic bone. We decided to go through with the C Section.
The C-Section was weird, and cold. And, kind of not as warm feeling as I thought it would feel like. You know, you see so many movie births, but this was a more sterile environment (thank God LOL). The bed was shaped like a cross...
I threw up when they pulled her out. The old man was there the whole time, next to my head. I wouldn't have done it if he wasn't there. Literally, I wouldn't have done it. The shock from the C-Section (your body getting sliced and opened and having about 30 pounds of fluid and baby yanked out of it.) I was very groggy and shaking so I could not hold her right after... Papa did. Which was amazing for me to know Mini Peaves was being held and watched over by her Papa. I was so glad we had prepared for both kinds of births, and a million thank yous to Dianne Randall, our birthing class teacher who taught us to not expect a specific kind of birth, but just to be happy your baby comes out beautifully and safely.
Here's our going home picture. She doesn't like the hat or the car seat.
We were in the horse-pital for 5 nights and 6 days, and Mini Peaves was perfect. She slept next to us in petrie-dish crib, all the nurses were faboo and I me and the old man didn't know just how much we would love the little bean. Mini Peaves was a little jaundiced and we had to part with her for a night (which turned out to be a blessing because we got to sleep for three hours straight if not more!) so she could go in the tanning bed. We felt a little guilty about this, but the sleep was so good. Like crack.
